Well, the main weight advantage for the typical SS amp is the lack of an output transformer. Since transistors are already low impedance, they're just not necessary.

Doeans't sound to me like it's the guitar, but rather the amp...or the power source. THese are the most likely culprits.

If you touch the strings, and the noise reduces, then the guitar is properly ...
