Man that's really great! Very tasteful and inspiring. _________________ "Inspiration may be a form of superconsciousness, or perhaps of subconciousness - I wouldn't know. But I am sure that it is the antithesis of self-consciousness." - Aaron Copland |

WOW, he's really good. I'm a sucker for a well played jazz ballad.
Anybody know what model guitar that is he's playing? Haven't had my coffee yet so I couldn't tell _________________ LISTEN!!! |

Oh man, that's just gorgeous! They decided to block Youtube at work today of all days, so I had to wait until I got home to hear this. It was well worth the wait for a lesson in dynamics & taste. He's incredible and the trio is so tight!
Thanks for the link.

Yeah he's a fantastic player. The guitar is either an Epiphone or Gibson Howard Roberts model. It's based on the guitar that Howard Roberts actually used. They are rare these days as not many were made. Looks like Gibson produced them under the Epiphone name from '65 to '68 then Gibson took over production in '73 and only made 45 of them. All of them were apparently made in the Kalamazoo factory.
Here's more Info on them from Archtop.com: http://www.archtop.com/ac_78hr.html
Does anybody know what that little amp is he's using in the video, a Polytone? I like the tone. _________________ LISTEN!!! |

It's a Gibson. I met him back an January, we brought him and Ari down to North Texas for a clinic, I don't recall the story about where he got it from but there was some sort of neat story about it.
One of the best clinic's I can recall, especially from someone so young. he really has realized his own style.
As for amps, I think he mentioned he prefers to use Fender tube style amps. He has a real nice reverb unit. He's just got absolutely brilliant touch on the instrument.
Not to mention that yes, he is a nice guy. He's 25 and just I think finished at the New School. He has 2 CD's as a leader, both are great. _________________ Guitarist, Composer, Professor of Music St Francis Xavier University

Fender style tube amps eh? Yeah his tone sounded very "tubey" to me, he has a gorgeous tone. In fact the knobs on the amp behind him in some of the videos look like Fender knobs but I wasn't shure. Is that reverb unit of his a tube reverb unit or a digital unit?
This guy is one of the best young jazzers that I've heard. I hope to hear more of him. Fantastic player.
BTW I checked out your website the other day Jake and you've got some really nice music there Nice stuff! _________________ LISTEN!!! |
