Hello, Everyone. I just joined this forum, and I wanted to take the time to introduce myself. I'm a middling guitarist residing in Portland, Oregon. I started playing jazz a few years ago, after graduating from college with a degree in English. Since then, I've taken about two years worth of music courses, and I've had the great fortune of studying with some amazing teachers.

I just started playing again after taking a break from music. I am a huge fan of Jim Hall, Grant Green, John Scofield, and Wes, to name a few. There are tons of others players out there who I enjoy listening to.

Anyway, I look forward to contributing to this forum.

Thanks. I just read something that you wrote about improvisation. I was definitely relied far too heavily on scales and modes. I've made a conscious effort to stop practicing scales and working more with chord tones and resolution.

Do you have any experience working with the Charlie Park Omnibook? I just picked up a copy, and I'll probably be spending the rest of my life gleaning information from these transcriptions.

Welcome Oldercloud,

Another fellow Oregonian, welcome aboard.

You will find a lot of helpful information here and some great people.

Watch out though, you will be enticed by guys like L4sleeko to buy many more guitars and equipment than you thought you would ever need LOL!

Have fun reading all the posts and we welcome any contributions you may care to make too.

First things first, you have to post pictures of your gear for everybody to GAS about!

Good to have you here.

Rich

Thanks, Sunriver. I moved to Oregon about 7 years ago. Portland has a really wonderful Jazz scene. I'm sure you're familiar with John Stowell and Dan Balmer. You should check out Chris Mosley, if you haven't already done so.
