I've been hearing some up and down reviews on the new Eastman guitars. Anyone got a hands on review of the Eastman John Pisano model. The gods have smiled on me and I've got about $2700 smackers to put on an archtop and the John Pisano model was the direction I was headed, Although i did see a used Gibson L4 at the Guitars N Jazz website. http://www.guitarsnjazz.com/

raywood,
I own an old Gibson ES 140 and I've played a couple of Eastmans, I haven't had the chance to play the John Pisano model so my opinion is only from the experience I have. John Pisano has been around a long time I'm surprised he doesn't have a Gibson model of his own but for whatever reason he endorses Eastmans. I personally would go with a vintage Gibson, of course I would have to play it through an amp for awhile but Eastmans although they look great they don't really have a place in my collection and I can think of other guitars like Hofner or even Heritage that I would choose over an Eastman. Now if you're playing acoustic only and you're not playing jazz guitar, you can go ahead and get yourself whatever you want, this is just my 2 cents and I hope it helps you. later Cool

I've only played Eastmans in stores... several stores... located across the country and I have to admit that I have not been impressed. The quality has been really inconsistent and setups generally awful. Everyone seems to argue that its a good option for the price, but frankly, I think that I would rather make a down payment on a nicer instrument with the cash and enjoy playing a smoother axe. Its all down to personal preference, of course, but I think that there are better options. Play, listen, and play again.

raywood,
If you're talking about that 2001 L4 CES, I'd snap it up. Gibson has been around alot longer than Eastman and even though Eastman is using a Kent Armstrong pickup what kind of wiring do they use I think their made in China if I'm wrong then I'm wrong but I've played a couple and I looked at the price tag and I remember thinking, shit they want that much for this. Play what you want and you decide. Don't forget Strombergs and D'Angelicos. peace Cool
