Thanks for the clip. I'm going to see his trio plus trumpet virtuoso John Swanna tonight at Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philly. I'm the clean cut Armani wearing blonde guy surrounded by Playboy Playmates, just kidding I'm the guy on the bicycle, drinking sodas if they insist on me drinking. Hope to catch the Frida Khalo exhibit manana', she rocks. see ya maybe.

Kresiberg is imo the best of the newer generation of East Coast guitarists

Jake, I was originally interested in Kreisberg because you and HitDoggie have referenced him in several posts. I checked him out and really liked what I heard, both his compositions and his playing.

I've been way more immersed in older stuff, 40s-60s. When I think of the hot shot new guys I think of Rosenwinkel and Ben Monder. Who are some other young guitarists (that are doing something new with the genre, like Kurt, Monder, and Kresiberg) worth checking out?

What about non guitarists? I looked at some Mark Turner youtube videos, pretty cool stuff. Jim Black is also pretty cool but I haven't heard that much of his stuff.

if i might chime in on some recommendations i would definately alert you to Mike Moreno who is a wonderful player with a truly unique voice.
Lage Lund, Gilad Hekselman and Pete Mazza as well as Wolfgang Muthspiel are other fine players worth checking out.
as for non-guitarists i would recommend saxophoneplayers Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Bill mcHenry and pianists Aaron Goldberg, Aaron Parks if you´re into profound improvisational skills.

In terms of "younger" like guys in their 30's 40's or younger guys I'm a fan of... or guys lesser known maybe...

Jonathan Kreisberg,
Adam Rogers
Peter Bernstien
Gilad Hekselmen (totally check this guy out)
Mike Moreno
Jesse Van Ruller
Brad Schekpic
Larry Koonse

Oh man he was great, I sat front row for the second set. Cannot pronounce the drummers name , but he is one of the best i've heard. The organ player sounded alot different than Joey D, but just as great in his own way. His name is Gary Versace, he's got this very subdued lyrical style that is still virtuosic, but all about melody and expression. John Swanna sat in on trumpet and always kills. He is just so tight rhythmically, and his tone is so pronounced and sweet. J kreisberg is a scrappy guy not unlike Monder or Kurt. Tough little bleeper, I expected a cute preppy guy. Oh his playing is superb. His use of pedal tones and the melodicism in his madness, yeah buddy. His time and feel are just impeccable. That right hand of his, oh jeez what a mofo. Most of all his ballad playing is the best I've heard from the new breed. He did "Stardust" as a ballad, not completely unlike Willie Nelson; well to me anyway.. The solo intro sounded groundbreaking to me. The way he uses the effects to express his sound, man noone needs to bend strings or use heavy distortion anymore;these cats are on to something. 'My One and Only Love" was the second set ballad....whew ....breathtakingly beautiful. An original named "Peru" was a standout amongst several nice compositions.
Next weekend I will see Jazzerchick's mentor Bucky Pizzarelli, so I like both traditional and modern. I thought of Michael (Jazzy) alot when listening to J kreis. J kreis is very european sounding to me.
