I'm heading to New York for a week in september all the way from Aberdeen Scotland! Pretty excited, just wanting to know what my "must do's" are, from a jazz point of view...
Already arranged to go see Paul Motian, Joe Lovano and Bill Frisell at the Village Vanguard.
Any more suggestions?

Which week? If you're looking to hear some good New York 'straight ahead' a lot of the guys I know and like play at Smoke, should be a good spot to check out...

In case anyone's interested... just got back from a week in NY, managed to catch Frisell, Lovano and Motian at the Vanguard, which was mindblowing.
Also saw Anat Fort playing with Ben Monder, the Jonathon Kreisberg trio, Dave Allan, loads of smaller things too.
Amazing scene going on, and jazz everywhere.

Was also really impressed with the guitar stores, managed to pick up a used '72 Fender Thinline tele and assorted goodies, which I will be giving it's premiere gigging performance tonight.
