I bought a beautiful 1969 Gibson ES 175 last week......I am a happy man..... It has all of it's original parts including the tuners. A few are a little difficult to turn and I am wondering if I should lubricate them, and if so, with what? I google searched and found several people saying this could be a bad idea. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

For tuners that are not sealed - like these sorts of Klusons pictured below - I sometimes use a light machine oil. Light machine oil is commonly used to lubricate older sewing machines.

Thanks for the info. Since I posted that question I found an article in the Guitar Player Repair Guide that says that oil can sometimes soak into the wood and weaken it so that the screws start to wear into the wood. For that reason, I haven't oiled. I recently used "Big Bends Nut Sauce" on my bridge and nut for lubrication. It is not oily but works great, and I have been thinking of using a little on the tuners. They are the closed type, with the little holes. Thanks again for your imput.
