|
|
I'm looking for a program for my Macintosh laptop to help with practicing. Currently part of my practice schedule includes soloing over some Abersold backing tracks that I play on my MacBookPro. That is, I play the backing tracks on iTunes on the computer, and plug my guitar into the amp and play over the changes. However, I'd like to start recording my solos so I can hear what I sound like against the backing tracks. Is there any Macintosh program that will simultaneously allow me to record both the Abersold tracks from the internal source and the guitar sound from the external mic?
Any other suggestions that don't involve me having to spend more money on gear?
Thanks,
-T |

Yea trade your Mac Book for a laptop with a PC based OS. Just joking . There are a number of freeware recording programs you can download that will probably work, Audicity is one of them and its pretty easy to Google it up. There are others too but that's the one I know of so if anyone else wants to chime in with a suggestion now would be a good time. |

Band in a Box is great for this, you can easily create a set of changes on the fly you want to practice over from extremely simple to as complicated as you can create and they do support the apple platform. _________________

Hi Gorecki:
Actually, I do have BIAB, and I do love it. However, I have the Macintosh version. I can't seem to find the option to record audio from an external source and mix it with a playback file. Is this feature only available in the Windows version, or am I just missing how to do this with a Mac? If so, how do you access this feature?
Thanks

BiaB is primarily a MIDI driven tool. I use it with an EMU ProteusX using VSTi midi driven sounds in companion with a GuitarPort and don't use it to record generally but I think you can?
Here's a link at PG that may help:

Yeah, you're right. garage band is really simple and should be able to do playback and capture concurrently. Didn't even think of that. _________________

well if you have a mac, there is logic pro, but it costs a lot. It is a professional recording software that will give you a lot of recording options...I have a windows and I use ableton live. Its also a good program, but im not sure if its made for macs...it might be though _________________ Check out my new site. Best of all, everything is free. | Drag the itunes into garage band. Works a treat. Make sure you turn off the internal mic though and record from line-in. |

As they said, you should be able to do this on Garage Band, which is a part of iLife. And yes, Audacity is free. Reaper is another popular option, though I don't know if its free anymore.
