I just wanted to recommend this brilliant guitarist. He should most definitely get more recognition!

Anyone here know him, or took some lessons from him?

Yeah I know Mr Koonse, he's a class act guy and a great teacher. He's also got one of the prettiest guitars I've ever seen!

Really someone to check out for sure!

any albums, recordings, or links to share for him? There's a lot of stuff on the web, a lot of youtube vids of sub par audio quality.

It`s brilliant!

Jake H., yeah, doesn`t he play a Borys archtop? They look really nice.

So, what`s his teaching concepts? Do you have some teaching material from him?

Koonse is a member of the LA Jazz Quartet. I saw him play at the LA County Museum about 10 years ago. Excellent player. The LA Jazz Quartet has a couple of recordings in Naxos Records. He teaches at Cal-Arts in Valencia or at least he did teach there. I think his father is also a guitarist.

Uh I have like some notes I took but they're "in the pile" of stuff I stole from clinics and lessons over the years. I open it up sometimes and think... damn I should practice this stuff. Then someone knocks on my door and asks me about how to play on Autumn leaves Wink

Uh, we talked a lot about like Odd Meters and Metric modulations. Played some tunes in differnt times. That sort of stuff.

I can't recall the make of the guitar. It's all lumped in obscurity. I would love to meet up with him again in the future. Not impossible I suppose.

Yes I used to seem him when I was in LA. He used to play with a B3 player named Joe Bagg quite a bit IIRC. Nice guy- I meant to catch a lesson but never did, I'm sure I still have his number in my book (if it's the same). After that I ran into Anthony Wilson, another I wanted to take a lesson from but never got to. Lots of good players in that town.
