Anyone recomend a magnetic pickup for my
old acoustic hofner president ?

I've got 7/8 " between strings and top

I don't want to rout the top

I'll probably mount the Vol and Tone controls in the top
and mount the jack socket in the side as usual

something warm and round sounding please

don't laugh but on my '58 HARMONY/ALDEN i've mounted a single coil LACE dobro pickup! it's about the size of your average single coil pickup.
and i have it on there w double stick tape.

looks like mounted w tape it comes in around 28/64" high off the top.

i think it goes for around $75. a solid good quality cord comes off it terminating in a good quality molded female 1/4" input jack

is it a warm sounding pickup....no. but it's not harsh or shrill either.

when i run straight from the p/u to the amp i have to roll some highs off at the amp as you'd expect but sometimes i mount an old d'armond control box w vol and tone.....i swear that thing is MAGIC.

I have the same problem with a gibson L50. I think the Kent Armstrong slim pickups are the thinnest. I am going to try out a pickguard mount version because there is no room on the neck under the strings. If you go pickguard mount then you can put the controls on there so no holes in your axe.
