He won the Thelonius Monk competition some years ago.
Last year Lage Lund from Norway won it Smile Have you checked him out?

No I haven't heard Lage Lund. I'll have to look out for him. And I'll definitely look into some of Van Ruller's work. Any recommendations as to which CDs to get?

Jazzy,
I was very impressed with Jesse Van Ruller, I was so impressed I went over to youtube and added that video to my collection. "Love for Sale" was awesome, he certainly puts some life into that song just by adding a little funk, playing with the tempo and adding great lines. I'll check out Lage Lund a little later, just so you know I'm not easily impressed by these youngsters coming up and I prefer the older stuff but Van Ruller, he's the man. thanks for the tip, later

Jesse van Ruller,

one of the four jazz guitar students Wim Overgauw took under his wings
at the amsterdam/hilversum conservatie.
Wim Overgauw a dutch jazz guitar master who made fame in the 60~s
with the Pim Jacobs trio in Holland and around the world, and played
with every famous jazz-cat (got a video tape where he plays with Wes Montgomery when he visited Holland, probably after his Belgium concert)
At the end of his career he took four of the most talented studens and past over all of his guitar life wisdom.
Jesse ,Maarten van der Grinten,Martijn Iterson,Jerry van Rooijen.
The all got a guitar out off Wim`s jazz guitar collection, where the all play on till today(Jesse with the big Levin)
Here `s a soundclip from the master himself with one of his students
playing "nobody else but me"

http://media.putfile.com/wim-overgauw

You must be one lucky B@#$ to have a teacher like him.

Here`s a sound clip from Maarten van der Grinten(Jesse`s guitar brother
they made a beautiful CD together "Van and Van der")
my favorite of the four .

http://media.putfile.com/maarten-van-der-grinten

playing Adriaan&Oliver,his one comp.

check out Martijn van Iterson he`s just as hot as his other brothers
http://martijnvaniterson.com
(still play`s on Wim`s Gibson)

enjoy.

Living in a small countrey like Holland is great, especially when you have to drive two hours tops to see them play.

cheers Marco

amazing! Jesse is an incredible jazz player, he's very different from the others guitarists of the world. I think that album "Live At Murphy's Law", recorded on 2005, is one of the most representative of it, in this album I hear the real essence of Jesse...Smile
