Hello all,
I'm a long time non pro guitar player who started working on jazz in the last year or so. I am a member of the "other" jazz forum too and although the few folks who will come out and say something have been supportive, in general the feedback over there is very restrained, imho. (one member over there has helped me work on tunes, thanks to him!)
I hope to hear a bit more active feedback and advice. I'd rather hear how I could do something better than hear nothing at all. (like most folks, I imagine I hope for some validation Wink
Oh, and if anyone knows if there's any live jazz to be heard in Pueblo, Colorado, please let me know. We moved here a few months ago and don't know much of the area here. Previously we were about 60 miles north.
Back to music, here's a rough recording of me playing rhythm and lead with no edits other than a fade out.

(if another tune starts playing after FMTTM, just close the window)
This should let you know where I'm at playing wise. Straight acoustic archtop on the recording, I'm thinking I should have played through the microcube for the lead.
Thanks for listening!

Thanks Brian,
I hoped for a little more active interaction here, but....
*chirp* *chirp* .... *sigh*
I know I'm new here, but nothing? 16 views, thanks to the dozen or so of you who must have read and maybe listened.
Best,
Randy

Yeah, unfortunately traffic here is a little lack luster these days. I just do what I can to keep it alive as regulars do pop in now and again.

Maybe jazzers are just more restrained or reserved about posting criticisms? Positive or negative? At least a dozen people had looked at the post, but no one offered any feedback. Who knows? I had a similar reaction on the other forum, excepting over there I posted a "soundcloud" link that worked for some and not for others. I got one straight forward positive feedback over there.
I have had some positive feedback from a few people on this recording and that helps.
Thank you for the welcome Brian!
ATB,
Randy

I have a *generalization* that often more humble players aren't particularly opinionated because it's just that, an opinion. As for the people getting to 'soundcloud' problem, I'm not shocked, I can't get to it right now. Many working environments use web restiction mechanisms that simply disallow access to such things, streaming media is a common one.

Hello Musequestor

I just joined today myself. I have a musician friend whom I speak to once per week. However, he doesn't "get" jazz.

I would be happy to tell you a bit more about myself but I don't want to burden you with my life story if that is not to your taste.

I will say that I played bass and guitar way back in the late 60s / early 70s and jazz guitar is something I started to look at only recently.

I noticed that you seemed disappointed when nobody interacted with you and, since I am new as well................................

Thanks for saying hello! I never worked much professionally, hardly at all and on a very low level, benefit performances, or super low paying ones and only a couple at that. (one memorable gig the band I was with was paid 12.50usd per "man" to open for another band in Denver) Rock, pop, country crossover and blues stuff. Now I'm trying to learn a lot more. If you like you can pm me. I was hoping for real constructive criticism on my playing. I know parts of it sound bad and parts sound good, but of course, I would like other players opinions. I have one musical friend a thousand miles away who has been helping me learn and I hope learning some from me. He knows a LOT about jazz and I know a bit about improvising that seems to be helping him, or at least I hope what I can share is helping him. It seems to be mutual and I think we both enjoy the interaction.
OH! Sorry I didn't respond sooner!! I have been a little busy with life the past few days.
ATB,
Randy
