Just thought I'd say hi, considering I have started posting on here. I'm 22 and I study music ed, been playing about 5 years but only 2 seriously. I come from a punk/death metal background and had absolutely no formal training until I auditioned into my school's music department.

other than that, I'm just happy I found such a great forum.

just curious, where are you going to school and what do you think of the curriculum? do they have a guitar performance major there?

I am going to Kutztown University, which is a Pennsylvania state school. The curriculum here is great, considering it's a tiny department, and we have been fortunate enough to bring in some huge names (not as far as jazz guitar players are concerned, but we have brought in members of maria schnieder's orchestra, the basie band is coming next semester, tim hagans has visited us). The guitar program here is in transition because my teacher is relatively new (he's only been in the program a year longer than me) so he is still working on getting his game plan in place.

They have a guitar performance major here, but honestly, I have never heard any of the classical players even mention doing a recital until their senior recital, and the only ensemble open to guitar players is jazz band, which is overwhelmed with guitarists.
