I agree though. Know those 100 songs and you could handle most situations.

Hey, Frets...
Sorry for the late reply, but agreed for sure. Got the same kind of gig coming up soon. I'm going to be on guitar with a trumpet, bass, piano, and drums. We'll hit the stage and do it. The pianist is going to come up with a set list.
I've played with the drummer in different situations over the years. Everyone else is new. It'll be fun. Expect an audience of about 100. Main thing is to not overplay and LISTEN to the pianist. As Joe Pass used to say, "his piano is bigger than your guitar."

Played a gig over the weekend with my quartet. I was looking at the 100 songs list posted here. We performed the following songs from the list--they drew good response from the audience:

Pretty "vanilla" gig, but given the age of the audience these songs came across quite well.

Have a gig on Friday at of all places, my local golf club, playing "background music" at the end of the Club Captain's Charity Day. Good vibes, hopefully decent weather and us playing while people eat their BBQ and have a cool one to watch the sun go down.
Anyway, the set list in alphabetical order, is:-

Line up is guitar/tenor/bass/drums, so much work for Mango to be doing. Again, most of the set featuring in the 100 list.
A few notable exceptions - Bobby's Blues is by Bobby Wellins, Life Line by Tubby Hayes, both great Brit sax players. August One is a township jive kind of thing (sorry, I don't know the composer) and Bridge View a reggae piece by Jazz Jamaica. Nice mix of classic standards with a few...different things in there!!
Update - the gig went very well and will be playing again this Sunday on the strength of it. Need to tidy up a few things with arrangments and running order, but....all in all, the mix of songs was good and we will only add to it - probably more from that 100 list!!

Hey, this is a fun thing to compare. We don't usually make a song list, but
I'm gonna keep a list on my Sun. gig and see how many I have from
the list. Lots I'll bet. The universal language for sure.

great tunes, jazzerchick! lots of my favorites...
you are the 7 string guitarist, i presume...eh, so with no bass, you "comp" for yourself when you solo? are you adept at two line improvisation, or do you play chord-melody, or do you have a horn player that doesn't mind arpeggiating an accompaniment?
