Theres the art of jazz guitar which is 'supposedly' instructional but is actually very difficult for beginners. Well worth buying though just to see GB noodling in his own home, talking about his influences etc |

This guy has a DVD called "Understanding and Playing Jazz Guitar", it's really very good, he even shows you 3 or 4 standards and talks about theory and it has one of those small books with it. later

GL,
Hey thanks for saying something about Fred's DVD's, it's funny but most players won't buy anything if they never heard of the guy. Well I never heard of him when I bought his DVD but I read a review on Amazon or someplace like that, anyways with you saying something about it maybe someone will take a chance on one of his DVD's and learn something, it's all good. later

| Jimmy Bruno's "No Nonsense Guitar" and "Inside Outside" or something like that. Both easy to follow videos/dvds. |

Try Joe Diorio "Solo Jazz Guitar", it is very good DVD, although it is only about playing solo guitar tunes |

I love those that's the only one I checked till recentely. I got the no nonsence one in 99' .Jimmy is a super player, person, and educater. He's like the only guy who could insult me or even laugh, without getting attacked. If I could afford 100 dollars an hour for lessons I'd go.
I got into Joe Pass solo guitar a year ago, man that is so cool.I played solo for quite a while but not like that. I cry when I listen to Joe. I f'n love that man. Coolest guy to ever touch the guitar, he just reeks of cool. Jimmy has some of his mannerisms, I think Jimmy was his prize student-colleague and it shows in his playing. Now the subs make perfect sence cause Joe talks like a working man. It helped me understand Ted Greene who I also worship.
Now I'm into the Benson one and want to mess with his stuff more. that blues he teaches is great. Iv'e played blues a long time but not like that. Anyway Jimmy's concepts help you understand everyone else better. So I vote that is the best one for rockers coming over to jazz. |

Gotta be great but I can't tackle too much. I'll keep with Papa Joe for now. I love Diorio too. |

The Art of Jazz Guitar by G. Benson is a must
But the first videos I got was Pat Martino`s Creative Force 1 and 2.
They`re only on vhs, but check them out. Some great lines there, and his system is also worth getting into.
Other good videos are; John Abercrombie, some Joe Pass dvd`s, Jimmy Bruno`s stuff, Bill Frisell...
And of course one of the greatest;
"Brent Mason - Nashville Chops & Western Style Guitar", man he can play:) |

Go for keyboards it much easier and you will get more work. Jazz guitar is for mentally unstable masochists. |
