| How hard it is to get berklee scholorship as a foreign student? |

| I went to their 5 week summer program this past summer and they held auditions for scholarships after the fourth week. They gave out a lot of scholarships, in varying amounts from $1000 a year all the way up to some all expenses paid four year educations! Interestingly enough, of the ~15 full ride scholarships they gave, about 10 went to students from Israel. My point is that it didn't seem to matter where you were from, it was all about your ability on your instrument. |

I don't think those kids were awarded the scholarships because they were foreign. The Israeli group in particular was BY FAR the best group of jazzers in the program. I think if they were all from Topeka, KS they would have gotten the same scholarship. Of those remaining five scholarships, I think four went to US students. But I really think it was based on ability rather than location, and it was a coincidence that 2/3 of the recipients were international.
Ash, I don't know if I would say you have an edge, but you are certainly not at a disadvantage being foreign. As Igiro mentioned, be ready- the competition is fierce! |

Almost sounds a bit like UC Berkeley! 
But I have to agree, it's not where you come from at Berklee, it how much potiential you already have.

2/3rds of the full rides went to foreign students and it didn't matter where they came from? that seems a little like it DID matter.
in other words, if you are from overseas, AND deserving, you might have a better chance aganst a US student of roughly the same level of ability.
so in this case ash, you may have an edge. just make sure that you're ready. as pointed out, not all scholarships are full ride scholarships. they are more like "tuition assistance", and Berklee is a private school, and is therefore expiiieeeeeensive. |
 I always have to catch myself when I'm surfing USA forums when people start talking about foreign students, I always think 'Hang on, you're the foreigners from overseas' but of course Berklee is in the States. |

| Thanks, this helps, in germany you donīt get much information about jazz, the most things are classic J.S.Bach and so on http://bs.cyty.com/visitabilis/gitarre/gitarkrs.htm a bit englisch, a bit german and a bit italien, today i heard gregorain voice mixed with jazzguitar in radio, thatīs modern europe, mixed all together , berklee is to expensive for people like me, the same price like 3 month rent a house with garden in germany, berklee books have the same price like music books in germany. Get much things free from church, all to do is good singing, well behavior and the people spend money, much money. We can use all things (micīs, amps, e-piano and so on....) and rooms, we just have to ask and give the things back. |
