Hello,
I've been playing guitar for about 10 years and the last year or so I've been learning a little jazz.
My question is this:
in a Bflat blues song can you improvise the Bflat blues scale throughout the whole progression or do you have to play in the Bflat scale, then Eflat scale, and eventually F scale as those chords are played?
I never jam with anyone so I have never been able t figure this out on my own.

Thanks

When your playing that progression, a IV-V-I it doesn't matter what key you're in it's all played the same, but you specifically asked about Bb. You can play a Bb Pentatonic/blues scale all the way through no mater what chord you're on, but you can also go a different direction with the Mixolydian scale which adds a whole lot of color and a new type of flavor to your sound. When you play the Mixolydian you have to change, when you're on the Bb, that's what you play the Bb Mixo, when your on the Eb, that's what you play the Eb Mixo and when you change to the F you play the F Mixo. Check it out, record yourself playing the progression and try the Mixolydian scales, you'll realize a new sound to add to your style and playing... Cool Oh, and as far as I know the Mixolydian is the only scale where you have to change scales to correspond with your change of chords. "Jazz, the only true artistic music"

I really appreciate the advice and I'll work on that Mix scale. I was playing around with it and it has an interesting sound and it's pretty
easy to learn. I'll also check out that website.

Thanks again!
