Hi,

I'm just wondering if any of you chaps have a preference regarding music notation software?
I've got a new Mac, and I need to shell out for something. I've always used Finale in the past (with mixed results, it can be quite tricky...) but Sebelius seems to be getting really popular.

What say ye?

Cheers.

PS. Or is there something else you prefer using?

I have not tried Sibelius but have been using Finale for about 9-10 years and it's really great and, from what I've heard, is the most widely used by professionals. I use it primarily for music notation...writing out arrangements (I arrange a lot for strings and horns) and backing charts. I think for me the biggest strength and frustration of the program is its versatility....by that I mean it does so many things that everytime you want to do something a little different you have to go to the manual. If you have a good memory, it won't be quite so often. The online tutorials are wonderful. There is a great users group chat thing at makemusic.com and you can get virtually any question answered by very brainy people. It would be a good idea to check this out and find out what they're talking about. Finale has a program specifically for guitar that you might try. I have not used it but people who have it rave about it.
Good luck and be patient!

Have used both and find Sebeluis much more user friendly and also easier to get away from the mouse too. (squeak!)
There are free demos available somewhere.
