Hi Guys,

Im heading over to the apple on 28th Dec for a week with my family to celebrate my fathers 60th birthday. He's a big jazz fan too and i'd like to take him somewhere to see some good jazz, but also where we can have a real nice meal (need to keep my mother happy) Rolling Eyes

I guess im looking for somewhere thats akin to a nice restaurant but is also well regarded as a jazz venue. How about SMOKE???

Thanks for all your help Very Happy

PS - Any big names over there at that time of year. We staying near times square Question

there's a huge young nyc jazz scene that I don't know a lot about. A friend of mine is really into these guys Andrew D'Angelo, Jim Black, Peter Evans to name a few

My favorite is Iridium (www.iridiumjazzclub.com). Very intimate, good views of the small stage. Les Paul still plays there every Monday night. I kick myself every time I think of that because I'm just a quick hop down there by Acela.

Last time I was there I saw Kenny Rankin. He was wonderful.

I've been trying to get there from three years now, had to cancel last minute the last two. Sad

How about Le Madeleine @ 403 West 43rd. Great French bistro restaurant

and great guitarist Gene Bertoncini on Sun. & Mon. nights.

Can't beat that!

Where's Jim Hall hanging out these days? Does he even do club work any more?

Ron Affif was mentioned. He plays at Zinc Bar on Mondays. I saw him. What a peformance and he has some top people sit in with him. Some of the best clubs I have been to are the Vanguard (of course you have to go on the Vanguard Orchestra night), the Blue Note, Iridium, Smoke on Hammond B3 night, and maybe Jazz at Lincoln Center will have a good event. I think there is a website called Gotham Jazz and I would go check it out. However, it is the holiday season, which may be slow.

I am in NY a couple of times a year and I must take in at least two or three jazz shows.

Have fun.
