Hi all
I have just bought an intel/mac that is able to do broadcast quality video chat.
By coincidence I have gained two guitar students this week, one from Canada and one from Sweden. I was sceptical and was sure that it was going to to be a disaster but it was astonishing, even possible to jam without a delay whew! And they want to come back! Technology is mindblowing as I never intended to do this.
If you are interested in taking a lesson from me you will probably want to check my credentials at www.leighjackson.com . I suppose I am most well known for being the guitarist who did all the playing on the Sibelius G7 software plus I was head of jazz guitar for 18 years at the top University in New Zealand.
regards
Leigh

Leigh,
I also have an Imac and ichat and have been looking onto doing online saxophone lessons. Is there anything else I need to do this? What doesthe student need as far as software or computer gear to take part in the lesson? Thanks for your help. Steve

Hi Steve
If you have an intel mac and they have one it is all ready to go. I have only done this with other mac users although I'm sure PC can do it too. I love the fact that you can drag lesson files across and it automatically comes up on their computer. The only thing is that you are best to put the Imac on foam rubber or a mousepad as the hum can be annoying at the other end.
Good luck
Leigh

Just to throw this out to you guys.

Regardless of platform, internet firewalls and other related security mechanisms will possible complicate communication between the two.

Also, a Windows based PC can do all of this as well, but in most cases will need to add a camera (or webcam if you will) and possibly a microphone using MSN Messenger.

As far more users have PC's than MAC's, it's something to consider doubling up on. Wink
