My name is George, (geeman28), and I've been playing rock and roll and blues guitar for years (I also started out as a bass player). I haven't progressed very well and I am bored with my own playing. I do love to improvise, and I am fairly good at it (for an amateur) over simple chords. I'd like to expand my guitar knowledge, learn some theory and some chord melody playing. I own Martin acoustics, a strat, a tele, an Ibanez AS-73, and recently acquired a "The Loar" LH-500, which I initially did not like, but I am growing found of it now (going from a Martin HD-28 to an archtop requires a shift in expectations and some knowledge of what an archtop is supposed to sound like).

Any way, I am NOT a jazz guitarist, but I love jazz guitar (Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell, etc). I'd like to learn some rudimentary jazz and improve my chops.

Thanks for listening.

Welcome aboard George!

Yea, an archtop has a different tone than a Martin, but then again they play different kinds of music. That guitar has no pickup correct? In any case if you have a chance try a fully carved guitar that is slightly larger than that one and you might hear a little more similarity to your HD. But yea they are different animals.

Actually, it has a lawrence pickup installed, an acoustic pickup - and it sound pretty good through an amp - but I am even starting to like the dry tone of the guitar acoustically.

Thanks for the welcome.
