Long time lurker, finally decided to sign on and say hello. Been playing for a long time but still pretty new to jazz guitar, looking forward to learning a lot and being part of the discussion around here.

Thanks for the welcome!
John, today I picked up a copy of "Alone Together" by Jim Hall and Ron Carter. Being a newbie to jazz, every new recording I bring home is a revelation!

trotsky, I love that album by Rob McConnell and Ed Bickert. Did you ever
get to hear Ed Bickert in person? I didn't , but I did get to
hear the Tentette and Boss Brass, minus Ed bickert, a few
yrs ago. That Tentette live has got to be one of the best things I
have ever heard!

JC.
I was fortunate enough to be living and studying in Toronto back when Ed Bickert was actively playing and also when the Trio Sketches album came out. I have seen him play more times than I can count and each time was a revelation. I had a chance to catch that particular trio at a Church in Markham ON....which was fitting because it was like a religious experience! Laughing
Some of my favourite memories come from watching Ed Bickert and Neil Swianson playing just duets at the Guitar Bar at the 'Top O' The Senetor' in Toronto.
What a treat.
I can only hope that some of those brilliant performances were recorded.
Neil Swainson is a genius and you could tune a piano to his bass playing.
I was at a small club called the Bermuda Onion one night when they packed the entire Boss Brass into the place. Laughing Surprised
It was so crowded that one of the trumpet players asked if he could keep his mutes on our table!! Cool Laughing
....They just blew the place apart !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exclamation Very Happy
It was a fun time to live there although the city can be a little harsh to a broke music student. Rolling Eyes
Ed Bickert used to do duets with Mike Wofford at a great little joint called Cafe des Copain whenever Mike came to town. The guy that ran the place used to let the Music students sit at the bar and drink coffee with out the cover $$......he was a wonderful patron.
I once saw him throw a couple out of his restaurant for making too much noise while the musicians were playing Razz
Good times ...and great memories.

Wow, Trotsky. Lucky you! So, do you dig Guido Basso, too, as much as
I do?
I wish I could have met Ed Bickert.

The Tentette was playing at Rex's when I heard them.

lawless, you can't go wrong listening to Ed Bickert
