I played with the Four Preps last night. They had some big hits in the
50's that I'm sure you'd remember. It was a really fast paced and upbeat
show with a fine musical director from L.A , W. Michael Lewis, and a
great drummer, Bob Bacha. Lots of fun.

I played a bunch of gigs with the Platters once. Back when Paul Robi (an original Platter) was still touring.

We band guys called them the Splatters, (or the Bladders). It was actually fun to play some of their old hits.

As a matter of fact, guess who the bass player was?

Yep!

Ask him what happened to the drummer when we played Del Mar with Little Anthony... and what else happened in San Francisco with the Drifters. haha. He'll love to remember THAT!!!

Doc, I played once with the Platters in Houston at a big nurses conference.
It was fun except for something went funny with the money
right before the show and the manager wouldn't let them go onstage
until he got it straightened out.
I think those Platters had a daughter of one of the original members
in the group. Also played with one of the Coasters groups a few times.
Then played on this past yr's Christmas CD for the Four Freshmen.
Now that was too cool. All really hip young guys keeping the
tradition of the original group.

Did you get in touch with Mr Bass Man?

We had one snag with the Preps when a sax player they hired- I didn't
know him- didn't show for reh. So I called around till I found a tenor
player and he came in at the last minute and did a great job,
everybody happy! Whew!

Yes, I did talk to him. I should phone him again actually. He was always one of my favorite people here in LA.....
