http://web.mac.com/ulfskei/iWeb/The%20Jazz%20Grotto/The%20Jazz%20bag.html

The above is a link to a tune I recorded, a 251 with some subs etc. The title is 'Once more came Lester', it's about Lester, who tries to learn jazz guitar, he tries and he comes around with his recordings, they mostly stink, but that's only to be expected, he's only tried to learn this since christmas, and he's old... But now he comes around once more (har har har), and now he believes at least it's starting to sound like jazz...
You must judge for yourself, but don't be too hard on him, he's quite sensitive a bloke.
I'm quite the beginner, and what little I've learned about jazz I've got from pwyh, and www.jazzguitar.be

I feel myself (certainly a somewhat biased opinion) that I'm finally starting to get the hang of jazz, and there's obviously (after hearing the extremely good stuff posted here) a great deal to learn for me...

Well, if you haven't got quicktime, you can click 'BACK' (a little button I put there below the player) to get to a list of mainly miserable attempts, in the right column there's a download in mp3 format of each tune, but focus on 'Once more came Lester' - it's the only one that's listenworthy (at least I hope it is). It's by no means perfect, there are some hesitation around, and the speed isn't especially good, I struggle to get better speed, but it takes time, it takes time...

Peace

Jazz it, just jazz it...

Skei,
FWIW, I really enjoyed your sound clip and think you have a natural talent. You mentioned being older and I believe living through the 'jazz' golden era has given you an advantage on getting the 'feel' of the song. I too am a novice at improvising over jazz tunes but I prefer the 'inside the box' sound you played. Melody is king to me over fast runs and finger aerobics, maybe cause i can't do it but i don't think so.

Cheers,
Paul

Hey, for only a year that is starting to sound pretty jazzy! Nice tone and touch too.

I would say the next thing you could start to work on a bit would be filling things in a little and trying to have more consciousness of the rhythm of your phrases. And don't forget nailing those thirds and sevenths...

Thanks guys!
I'm certainly happy for the feedback, otherwise I'd be lost in translation hoping to find out what to improve etc...

I'm doing all I can to try and get the hang of all those thirds and sevenths and of course to get the timing right, but it's a love affair not even my wife disapproves of so it'll be fine in the end...

Peace

Jazz always, always
