Here's an observation I've made lately.

Personally, It's helped me 'see' the fretboard more for what it is. I don't think its going to help me sound jazzier. But it seems like its been a useful observation so far.

First I printed out a fretboard chart with the pattern of intervals on it.

See here at the botton left of page:
http://www.jazzguitar.be/guitar_notes.html

I then took 3 different color highlighters, and selected the same 4 note groups, with the same color. This cover's the entire fretboard and follows the pattern of octaves.

This makes it easy to take lines and see where they will repeat all over the fretboard. and ways to change there shapes.

Now my mind isnt lost in a sea of what appears to be a thousand notes.

The entire fretboard is easier to visualize.

Instead of just being able to see the C scale, I can see all my chromatic possibilities in all possible places.. And with all of them contained in only 3 possible groupings of 4 notes, (yipee 4 fret fingers!) that line up diagonally and back to back with eachother.

Thanks for sharing New Marco!

This is definitely going to help beginners to learn one lick in various different positions of the fretboard. Very Happy
