I wonder why this isn't the norm?

My first thought is the entire purpose of tab is to provide the ability for someone to learn how to mimic something but not actually learn anything. Laughing

Ooohh! Fightin words! Wink
Gorecki, I'm kidding!
I actually like this TAB thing. It perpetuates illiteracy amongst guitar players, therefore... more gigs for me! Very Happy

Oh...It does have value. I learned van halen's eruption and steve vai's attitude song from tab a hundred years ago from tab. Don't think I would have done so as easily from a chart. If for anything literal fingering can make figuring out how to play something more intuitive because the 'shape' used by the player may not be the first thought of someone reading a chart.

@Gorecki,
I agree, but then you learned to read. So many young players don't do this which is a shame.
I enjoy this forum specifically because the members (most) are challenging themselves to discover new things... and sharing their discoveries with others.
I much appreciate being a member here.
Thank-you.

Actually, not true, I was reading long before ever seeing tab. But I'm kind of odd in that when I was 15 I was playing in rock cover bands one night and standards with guys old enough to be my grand parents the next. Those were fun times! Cool

But generally speaking, you're absolutely right. Wink
