I'm 67 and still can remember my first guitar and learning to play from those Mel Bay books. I took the guitar up when I was 10. My father wouldn't let me take up anything that was loud. No drums. No trumpet. I settled on the guitar. Of course I had a cheapo. It seamed the strings were about 1/2 inch off the fret board. Oh the pain.

Wow, most of that statement is very relative. Started at 8, totally crap guitar, mel-bay, floundered for a good while trying to pick out Elvis Presley tunes. Laughing

Me too, although a few years later than rwmol Wink . I started at age 8 and remember the finger pain all too well. I also distinctly remember the first time I played a guitar with low action and light strings. It was a Les Paul copy, all black with gold hardware, the brand name was Conrad. It totally blew my mind that a guitar could feel that good (at east compared to what I had been playing). I stayed at the store all afternoon playing it and eventually put it on their lay-away plan. It took me 6 months before I had made all the payments and could pick it up and take it home. At 13 years old, those were 6 of the longest months of my life Laughing
