So as you can probably tell I actually I have some time today Laughing

I hate to parade my ignorance but I have a very specific question for the more experienced players about something that I should probably be able to figure out on my own.

Embraceable You...Pretty song and it is giving me fits... Embarassed

Most of it is a no brainer but the "Just one look at you ...." line is beating me up..
The version I have is in G.
Bars 9 ,10 ,11,12 are as follows..
Emi EmiMaj / Emi6 F#7b5/ Bmi Bb+/Asus A7 /....all leads to Dmaj "You and You alone..bla bla"

Now the descending Mi Maj sound is nothing new and I hear that quite nicely but it is the 4th 5th and 6th chord sounds in this sequence that kind of lose me...

Any thoughts?

Thx
Gene

Yes. Two thoughts.

1. Those chords suck and blow. They probably came from the Real Book and some editions of the Real Book have other errors in this song as well.

2. Have a look at Wikifonia. A bit different arrangement, but I think a little closer to what Gershwin wrote...and you should be able to borrow from both to arrive at something you like.

I think if you play an F#9 instead of an F#7b5 the rest will start to fall into place better.

I agree with cjm about those particuar chords. That's what I've got in the Real Book II. I think if you strip it down, it's just 2 bars of Em and 2 bars of Bm, so there are lots of ways to embellish it

I've played it this way:

Em EmMaj / Em7 F#7b9 / Bm /E7 Eb7/ DMaj7...

or:

Em EmMaj / C#m11 C7b5 / Bm Bb7 / Asus Eb9 / Dmaj7 ...
