Hi all,

I've been having fun playing along with this 2-5-1 practice backing track in G minor, so I thought I'd share it with you... it's perfect for getting your octaves out, Wes Montgomery style Smile

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wV1afxgN1k

Medium swing at 120 BPM. Tracks starts at 0:51

Chord progression:

II: Am7b5 I D7 I Gm I Gm :II

On the track, you will hear extensions of these chords - as is common in jazz of course Smile

Scale suggestions:

G minor scale - G A Bb C D Eb F (G)

(Amin7b5 chords and Gmin7 chords)

G harmonic minor scale - G A Bb C D Eb F# (G)

(D7 chords)

Basic arpeggios:

Amin7b5 arpeggio = A C Eb G

D7 arpeggio = D F# A C

Gm7 arpeggio = G Bb D F

Next up, you could try out some more advanced colours on the dominant chord (D7) by treating it as an altered chord and using the altered scale:

D altered scale - D Eb F Gb Ab Bb C (D)

The altered scale is the mode which starts on the 7th step of the melodic minor scale, so in other words - the 7 notes of the D altered scale are the same as those of the Eb melodic minor scale Smile

Here's a minor 2-5-1 lick you can try transposing to G minor http://goo.gl/McUjFO

And here's lots more free 2-5-1 jazz jam tracks http://goo.gl/GD3K8s

Enjoy!
