I own a Behringer ACX 1000 amp which I like to use for gigs that I need my mike (I also sing). For guitar only gigs, I find that lugging my 47lb amp is a chore. I'm thinking of buying a 15 w (big enough for my venues) and under 20 lbs and under $150. I've been looking at Roland microcube, Fender 15 w w/reverb, Peavey Backstage. I'm leaning towards the Fender, though I have noticed some have a CD input for a playalong (geat for practice). Any suggestions?

Bless J, thanks for the helpful comment. Anyway, I ended up buying the Roland microcube from Sweetwater. I haven't received it yet, but I played through one last summer at the National Guitar Summerworkshop Jazz Summitt. It has a big sound for a small box and weighs 7 lbs.

I had a peavey backstage for quite a while, but then it got stolen. The distortion circuit was nice, but I couldn't get a very good clean sound for jazz. I have a good tube amp (ampeg from the 60's) but it's heavy and loud.

I recently stumbled upon what I think is the perfect small jazz amp. Believe it or not, it is a Crate GX-15R. The distortion circuit is variable from clean through super crunchy. I use just a little edge of distortion and keep the midrange up high, and it works great for the archtop sound. I did replace the Crate speaker with a Jensen Mod. It doesn't get too loud, but it's louder than the micro cube, which I tried in a music store. That one didn't get anywhere near loud enough for any sort of gig.

I've never gigged with the Crate, but it seems like it would be loud enough for a small group with un-miked percussion.

I've also heard that the Danelectro Nifty Seventy is a great jazz guitar amp, even though it's designed for bass. It has a closed back, and I think it's around 15 watts.

Ampeg makes a great 15 watt amp,with a 12 in speaker,all tube,great jazz sound,warm,smooth.It's called a Jet2.Good luck!

A good 15W amp is the VOX AD15VT

Found a behringer 15w modeling amp for cheap - tore it apart and rebuilt it with two 12 inch speakers - definitly louder then with the orginal 8 inch speaker - use it with my Washburn HB-30 semi-hollow~ have a set of 11`s on it - get everything I want nice sound, tone and it ain`t heavy -
So hope ya find what your looking for .

Try to get your hands on an old Yamaha JX25 solidstate amp.

they have a beatifull full warm jazztone with the bass rolled up. You can get them very cheap on the second hand market (if you cab fnd one)

stay away from the overdrive circuit though... not very pretty.

Fender Blues Junior - 15W - Valve amp - warm sound. I traded in my 100W Twin for this amp and haven't looked back. I fitted it with a Behringer DI unit that I can hook up to the PA if necessary.
