I am just writing here to share what I found to be a breakthrough to unlock the fret board. For jazz veterans this might be useless but for the rest of us it does open the doors to the enigmatic art of improvisation.

A couple of days ago I bought an electronic book teaching how to play scales and to move our fingers anywhere on the fret board without getting lost. At first I was skeptic but told myself I had nothing to loose for the cheap price (16.95). As probably many of you did, I learned the numerous scales (major, melodic minor, pentatonic minor, blues etc.) using my memory to play fragmented grids of pattern. Problem is that I am unable to remember these fragmented grids. I always had to ask myself, which grid should I use now considering what I did a moment ago at this particular position of the neck?

I knew instinctively I needed an holistic way to look at the fret board but was unable to find it until recently. I had to find a Zen like thinking and ask myself what it is I am not able to see. Finally, I got my creative Ah Ah moment when I started to put into practice what I read in this ebook. I likened my experience of learning about scales to that of learning how to ride a bicycle. Improvisation cannot be taught as a series of logical steps - it has to be learned as an acquired experience. Even then, when the knowledge comes, it doesn't come gradually: it arrives suddenly, as a kind of explosive enlightenment.

Instead of learning fragmented grids the author unfold one master grid. This master grid contains all grids in this universe. After practicing only one evening with this master grid, I was able to go anywhere on the neck almost without thinking. The next day I continued to pratice traversing the master grid but only in my head. In the evening when I took my guitar I was astonished how fluid was my melodic lines. Really, if you want to make a gift to yourself get this book.

To be sure how powerfull this master grid is. I know I could play a genetically modified guitar of 100 strings and find my way around the neck without getting lost.

I am not sure if maybe I am just a little too advanced for this e-book, but from what you said, it sounded like a pretty good deal. I spent the 17 dollars and bought the e-book, and I am coming to find that it isn't all it is cracked up to be. Sure, there are a few things in the course that help to enlighten fretboard logistics, but I am not sure it is worth the price. I will keep everyone up to date as I explore further into this grid system.
