I'm from California, Sacramento not too much jazz here except the Jazz Jubilee which is full of Dixieland. It's billed as the worlds largest, when it first started I went every year cause my ex-brother-in law worked there so I got a lot of comps. I saw George Van Epps there, in 1982 or 83 I think he was like 86 years old. It was amazing, he played with a Big Band then he played solo on his 7 string, truly amazing. I met Molly Ringwald, her Dad plays banjo and I think piano as well, he's blind and also amazing, Molly sings jazz, she's really good. I think the last time I saw her there was in 1984, think I went there in 1985 or 86 and that was it, it's gotten way too big and cost way too much, no more comps of course, but I stopped going even while they were still around. The Jubilee tries to have more than Dixieland, Pearl Django played there last year and there playing here again this year. A lot of good musicians, just not my kind of jazz, I support all types of jazz but I'm usually busy doing something else during that time of the year, end of May. peace

I've been there a couple times I think... Mary Washington is around there, right? And I remember getting off 95 once to get gas at one of those exits...

I live in New Orleans. We have some awesome local jazz musicians, but as you can imagine, the music scene has been kind of slow. You used to be able to go anywhere on a weekend in the French Quarter and follow your ears to a little trio on a corner, or a full quintet getting down in a diner. Hopefully, those days will be back again soon.
